About the exhibition

War artist. Volunteer nurse. Humanitarian. Doris Zinkeisen took on many roles during her life, and in this special exhibition hosted by the British Red Cross, we invite you to come and explore her groundbreaking portrayals of our relief efforts during the Second World War. 

In celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Brushstrokes from the Front Lines highlights her evocative depictions of the incredible moments of humanity against the bleak backdrop of the war. 

By showcasing modern-day crises in this exhibition, alongside Zinkeisen’s portrayals from the Second World War, we invite you to reflect on the power of humanity in the worst of times.

Celebrating VE Day across the Red Cross

Brushstrokes from the Front Lines is part of our celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

VE Day serves as a chance to mark the contributions of British Red Cross volunteers during World War II and connect this legacy to our ongoing work supporting people in crisis today.
