Use this teaching resource, based on a short video of people helping others in the aftermath of the flash floods, to explore how floods impact communities. Students will also learn how people come together in the aftermath of extreme weather events.
Learning objectives
- Learn about the action communities are taking in the aftermath of the floods.
- Apply your learning and practise empathy to understand the impact of flash floods on people and how people can prepare for extreme weather events.
- Share your learning by debating a statement and showing active listening skills.
How do I use this resource?
Explore events unfolding in Spain through a humanitarian lens. Use the three photos to explore the impact flash floods have on communities.
Download the PowerPoint to deliver the activities. Use one, some or all the activities, depending on your needs. Each one can be done in ten to fifteen minutes. Embed these activities into your lessons or use them in assembly or tutor time to engage learners with current events and humanitarian news.
Resource overview
- Watch the short video and explore the photos of people helping clear debris in the aftermath of the flash floods in Spain using the ‘see, think, feel’ framework.
- Debate the statement: “Can the impact of flash floods on individuals and communities be prevented?". Do learners agree or disagree? Why?
