Help with travel for family reunion
Learn about travel assistance to bring your family to the UK.
Do you have family members with family reunion visas living overseas? We may be able to arrange and pay for your family’s flights to join you in the UK.
Eligibility
To get help with travel you must:
- be living in the UK as a refugee or with humanitarian protection
- have family reunion visas for your family.
Your travelling family member must be in a location we can support.
They must also meet one of the following:
- under 18 years
- in a family unit of three or more
- need medical assistance to travel.
We get many requests and have limited funding, so sadly we can't always guarantee that we'll be able to help.
If you meet this criteria, contact your local refugee service by following this link:

Steps for travel support
- Contact your local refugee service to find out if they are accepting new requests.
- If you are eligible and funding is available, we will arrange an appointment to discuss you and your family's travel needs.
- You’ll provide copies of the documents that we need to arrange travel (see list below).
- Travel arrangements will be made by our team and our partners, the International Organization for Migration (IOM). We will try to ensure your family travels before their visas expire.
- Once they arrive, we will help your family integrate and adjust to life in the UK.
Documents and evidence you need:
- Biometric residence permit or e-visa to prove your refugee status.
- Passports (if held) for family members that are travelling.
- Family reunion visas for all travelling family members.
- Contact details for your travelling family members.
- Consent from your travelling family members (we will collect this).
Further evidence may be needed due to local laws where your travelling family members are located.
We offer information and guidance to help you comply with the law and regulations.
Our safeguarding duty
We ensure your family's safety and wellbeing by upholding UK safeguarding standards throughout the travel process.
When a child travels to the UK without their parent or family, we work with the Safeguarding Assurance Team and the family to ensure the child's safety and wellbeing.
