What is World First Aid Day?

World First Aid Day takes place each year on the second Saturday in September. It aims to promote the importance of first aid and raise awareness of how learning basic skills can save lives.

In 2024, World First Aid Day will take place on Saturday 14th September, with people taking part in events across the world,

Why is learning first aid skills important?

Our research shows that only 41% of people in the UK would feel confident to step in if someone is unresponsive and not breathing*. In first aid emergencies like these, every seconds counts and even the most basic skills can make a difference. By learning how to provide immediate first aid before professional medical help is available, you can:

  • provide life-saving support in a crisis
  • reduce the severity of injuries and illnesses
  • prevent further harm or the condition worsening
  • keep your family and neighbours safe by offering assistance
