The British Red Cross has launched an emergency fundraising appeal in response to the devastating earthquake in Morocco.
More than 1,000 people are reported to have died in the disaster, with hundreds more injured. The number of people affected is expected to rise in the coming days.
Moroccan Red Crescent volunteers responded in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, providing first aid and emotional support to those affected.
Richard Blewitt, executive director of international for the British Red Cross, said:
“This earthquake has left hundreds dead and many more injured. People have lost their homes, loved ones and livelihoods, and sadly the full scale of the destruction is only likely to become apparent in the coming days.
“The British Red Cross is launching an emergency appeal on behalf of the people affected by this appalling disaster. If you can, please donate to help us provide vital humanitarian support when people need it most.”
