We offer text to donate as a way to make quick easy donations to the British Red Cross via your mobile phone.
Terms and conditions
The donation will be added to your next phone bill, plus your standard network text charge. We will receive 100% of your £1.50/£3/£5/£10 donation. Please note that you cannot donate using this service from a Channel Islands, Isle of Man mobile or outside of the UK.
If the keyword or short code you text is invalid you may still be charged your standard network message charge. You will not be charged the donation as you will not be donating to the British Red Cross.
If you have sent a text to the British Red Cross’ numbers (70600 or 70141) in error you may still be charged if the keyword is active. You will know the keyword is active if you receive a text from the British Red Cross to confirm the donation. If this has happened, please contact your network directly to claim a refund. If your network will not refund the donation you can contact the British Red Cross. However, we will not be able to make the refund until the payment has cleared our account, which may take over 90 days.
For any specific appeal text asks, if we raise more money than we cannot reasonably spend on the appeal, we will use your donation to respond to humanitarian disasters overseas or in the UK. Any donations we receive to short codes or keywords we are no longer promoting will be used wherever the need is greatest.
All supporters must obtain permission from the bill payer before sending a text message. If you are under 16 years old, you must have your parent or guardian's permission to send a text donation to the British Red Cross.
We might text you to tell you about the difference you have made and how you can donate and save more lives. By texting you consent to telephone and SMS marketing contact from British Red Cross. To give without consenting to calls and texts, text your chosen keyword followed by “NO” to 70141. Alternatively, to opt out of receiving text messages send STOP to 70141 (standard network rates apply), call 08002800491 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
You are unable to donate more than £10 in one text donation and no more than £30 in one 24 hour period. These restrictions are imposed by the mobile network operators.
If you send a text to request information from British Red Cross, to a number that you may have seen advertised, you will be charged your standard network rate. You will receive a call back with the information requested. If you no longer wish to receive this call text NOCALL to 70141 or email email@example.com.
Regular giving by text
For supporters who are giving a regular gift through SMS, British Red Cross will send a monthly reminder text and supporters can choose to skip that month's payment, by texting SKIP to 70002 within 24 hours of receiving the reminder. Supporters can stop their monthly £3 or £5 donation at any time, by texting STOP to 70002 or by calling 0203 282 7862. Viewing online content may incur data charges with some mobile contracts. Texting SKIP or STOP will be charged at your network's standard rate.
